Volume 9     Issue 2     June 2015

The Arts in this Issue

Under the admittedly ambiguous title of "The Arts" Wordgathering seeks to bring together those areas of visual art, performance art and music not included in the conventional literary arts where recognition of artists with disabilities is making an impact. This issue presents three pieces related to performance. In the first, Alexandra Kadlec takes a look at the performance art of Raphaella de Groot as it was revealed in the recent exhibition, "The Art of the Loved Experiment", in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In a quite different vein, editor Michael Northen reflects on the collaborative process that led to the inauguaral performance of David Simpson's play Crossing the Threshold into the House of Bach that opens this month in Philadelphia. Lastly, from the field of music, Emily Michael considers the concept of the Parachorus and its implication for blind performers.

"The Arts" are an area in which new forms of participation for and contributions from artists with disability are blossoming. Wordgathering editors are eager to hear about new work, events and artist. Anyone with proposals for future articles in this section should contact the journal at submissions@wordgathering.com.
