was your birthday
the first time the silo
was an observatory
when I met you
around the 15th
and I was three
on the rug red
a cicada season
before the airedale
arrived in my
mother’s living room
it was summer
humid as usual
a few days after today
already a Freddie
before you named yourself
dark curly hair leaning into me
perched on your lap
what was the title
of the book
you read to me
our eyes matched
before I saw you again
holding your fifth child
borne by swallows
