SICK KIDS
wandering pristine hallways—lost
but together—a dysfunctional group
who just happened to fall
into the I'd-rather-be-anywhere-but-here
place that ordinary children go
to become extraordinary
at night, under starched sheets
trading secrets of diagnoses
as if each one were detailed
on baseball cards
that could be traded
for a better outcome
no one noticing one slipping
out the door; another one
taking their place
before anyone realizes
they have gone
