Essays in this Issue

This issue's essays selections are represented in nine non-fiction pieces. We are very proud to that one of the pieces included is the text of Kathi Wolfe's keynote address at the first every Zoeglossia conference for disabled writers, held in May of this year. It was an historic occasion for disability literature. Two other essays presented are responses to or continuations of work in the March 2019 issue. Jim Ferris gives his thoughts on points made by the half dozen writers who reacted to his well known essay on crip poetry. Roy Wahlberg continues his narrative about his development as a disabled poet in prison. Paul Hostovsky, a frequent contributor to Wordgathering, tells the story of the real life Pinball Wizzard who could have served as a model for the rock opera Tommy. The other five essays all come from new contributors – Carol Jeffers, Fay Loomis, Meghan E. Macnamara, Katie Lee Mullins and J. Tyler Turpon – whose titles all announce the varied topics of their pieces fairly clearly.

Wordgathering is always open is also new disability-related essays and short fiction that make a contribution to disability literature. Please check the journal Submission Guidelines. Queries can be addressed to comments@wordgathering.com.
